Chemical peels involve the application of different concentrations of certain acids to stimulate the exfoliation process of the skin surface while at the same time stimulating collagen synthesis with the aim of achieving brighter, renewed and more elastic skin. The most common are alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs like glycolic acid), beta-hydroxy acids (like salicylic acid) or trichloroacetic acid. Depending on the type and concentration of the acid, there is superficial to medium or deep peeling of the skin.
